Adventures of Vacation Bible School

This year I volunteered to work on the administration team for our church's Vacation Bible School. I primarily printed fliers, invitations, nametags, labels, response and follow-up cards, etc. This sounds like a potentially small task, however this year our church's VBS had 800 kids enrolled and around 500 volunteers! Amazing, huh? A couple of my friends, Melinda and Lori, worked on the core team of women that met for months and months planning out the details for the week. It's incredible to see the logistics of organizing registration, small group shepherds, crafts, snacks, recreation activities, worship time, photographs, daily newsletters, etc. for 800 kids. The week went very well, and Ethan had a blast in the childcare all week. I wasn't sure if he would get tired of being there for 3 hrs+ each day, but he loved it! The nursery workers said that he was easily the most adventurous of all of the 17 kids in his room. In some ways I'm glad that he isn't afraid to try new things and is very outgoing, but at the same time I hope that he learns to approach some new things with caution and not jump right in. The children in the nursery wing got to do special activities just like the big kids, so Ethan's room had time designated for recreation. I snuck in one day with Lori's camera and took a couple of photos. One of the nursery workers said that Ethan really enjoyed riding in the wagon during recreation time each day!
