Maybe We Missed Our True Calling-Lumberjacks?
Today Dan spent probably at least 4 hours cutting up wood from our fallen tree and moving it to a pile in our backyard. We even took down the 10-15 foot piece that had remained standing when the other part broke off and fell to the ground. It probably would have been comical to get a picture of us as we "felled" the rest of the tree ourselves, but there weren't any neighbors outside to ask to take a photo. Dan read the directions in his chainsaw manual about how to guide the direction of the tree as we took it down. Dan somehow managed to lasso a rope around the top of the tree, and I held the opposite end and pulled with all my might about 25 feet away from the base as Dan sawed it off just a foot or so off the ground. I'm sure that we made for quite a sight as I pulled the tree over so it fell between our houses. This was also my first "up close" look in daylight at the tree remnants. I was amazed at the gigantic dent that the tree made across our yard, and that was in frozen ground to boot! If that tree had landed on a house or car, we would have been looking at SERIOUS damage. Anyhow, thankfully it didn't, but we again counted our blessings.
